Our results shed light on the threats associated to online dating scams, and can help researchers and practitioners in developing effective countermeasures to fight them. We show that different types of scammers target a different demographics on the site, and therefore set up accounts with different characteristics. We analyze the scam accounts detected on a popular online dating site over a period of eleven months, and provide a taxonomy of the different types of scammers that are active in the online dating landscape. In this paper we perform the first large-scale study of online dating scams. Such scams span from schemes similar to traditional advertisement of illicit services or goods (i.e., spam) to advanced schemes, in which the victim starts a long-distance relationship with the scammer and is eventually extorted money. Online dating sites provide a valuable platform not only for single people trying to meet a life partner, but also for cybercriminals, who see in people looking for love easy victims for scams. Online dating sites are experiencing a rise in popularity, with one in five relationships in the United States starting on one of these sites.

The Ghermezians claimed they were never told of the deal and sued Simon, citing fiduciary responsibility. The dispute stemmed from a 1999 purchase of Teacher's Insurance's 27.5% equity stake by Simon Properties, giving them majority ownership. In 2003, after a protracted six-year legal battle between Simon Property Group, the managing general partner of the property, and the Ghermezian brothers/Triple Five Group, over majority ownership of the site, a federal appeals court ruled in favor of the Ghermezians, effectively transferring control and planning authority of the mall back to the creator of the concept. The mall was originally scheduled to reopen on June 1, but civil unrest in the Twin Cities around this time caused the mall to postpone the reopening. In early 2020, Mall of America closed for a period of twelve weeks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, closing on March 17, and reopening on June 10 with only 150 tenants open for business. As of 2015, the mall employed over 11,000 workers year-round and 13,000 during peak seasons. The Mall of America's 42 million annual visitors equal roughly eight times the population of the state of Minnesota. Mall of America became the largest shopping mall in total area and largest in total store vendors in the United States when it opened. Even before opening, the mall had earned several nicknames, including "The Megamall", "Sprawl of America", "Hugedale" in reference to the four major "dale" shopping malls within the Twin Cities: Rosedale, Southdale, Ridgedale and the now-defunct Brookdale. Its anchors were Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Sears. Mall of America opened its doors to the public on August 11, 1992. Organizations involved include Melvin Simon and Associates, Teachers Insurance and Annuity, and the office of architect Jon Jerde. Groundbreaking for the mall took place on June 14, 1989. In 1986, the Bloomington Port Authority signed an agreement with the Ghermezian organization. A plaque in the mall's amusement park commemorates the former location of home plate and one seat from Met Stadium was placed in Mall of America at the exact location it occupied in the stadium, commemorating a 520-foot (160 m) home run hit by hall-of-famer Harmon Killebrew on June 3, 1967. The Mall of America is located on the site of the former Metropolitan Stadium, where the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins played until the Hubert H. The mall's concept was designed by the Triple Five Group in conjunction with global design firm DLR Group, owned by the Ghermezian brothers, who also own the largest shopping mall in North America, the West Edmonton Mall. Approximately 40 million people visit the mall annually, 80% of whom are from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Illinois and Ohio. The mall is managed by the Triple Five Group (which in turn is owned by the Ghermezian family, along with the West Edmonton Mall and the American Dream). It opened in 1992, and is the largest mall in the United States, the largest in the Western Hemisphere, and the eleventh largest shopping mall in the world. Located within the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, the mall lies southeast of the junction of Interstate 494 and Minnesota State Highway 77, north of the Minnesota River, and across the Interstate from the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport. Mall of America ( MoA) is a large shopping mall located in Bloomington, Minnesota. (Two 7-story ramps and two overflow surface lots) HGA, KKE Architects, Inc., Jerde Partnership ADEPT’s driver enables it to scale across multiple GPUs and allows easy integration into software pipelines which utilize large scale computational systems. We demonstrate the feasibility of this strategy by implementing the Smith-Waterman algorithm and comparing it to similar CPU strategies as well as the fastest known GPU methods for each domain. Our proposed strategy uses GPU specific optimizations that do not rely on the nature of sequence. In this paper, we present ADEPT, a new sequence alignment strategy for GPU architectures that is domain independent, supporting alignment of sequences from both genomes and proteins. Existing GPU based strategies have either been optimized for a specific type of characters (Nucleotides or Amino Acids) or for only a handful of application use-cases. However, with the move of HPC facilities towards accelerator based architectures, a need for an efficient GPU accelerated strategy has emerged. Multiple SIMD strategies for the Smith-Waterman algorithm are available for CPUs. With the advent of modern sequencing technologies and increasing size of both genome and protein databases, a need for faster Smith-Waterman implementations has emerged. This task is performed with the Smith-Waterman algorithm, which is a dynamic programming based method. At the core of most of these tools, a significant portion of execution time is spent in determining optimal local alignment between two sequences. Bioinformatic workflows frequently make use of automated genome assembly and protein clustering tools. However, in Illustrator, the ‘Artboard Tool’ allows you to customize the canvas size specific to your artwork. The terms ‘canvas’ and ‘artboard’ are often used interchangeably. This generous canvas caters to most design requirements, whether your final size needs are for small icons or large format printed pieces. The largest artboard size in Adobe Illustrator is 227.54 inches x 227.54 inches (or 577.95 cm x 577.95 cm). What Is The Largest Artboard Size In Illustrator? Whether you’re designing banners, murals, or high-resolution posters, understanding the right artboard size becomes a critical factor. So just slide the dot.Ĥ' x 20' > 4.8" x 24" and so on. Then there are those fresh off campus "designers" that get scale 'rithmatic all wrong. Especially with us designers that don't properly optimize our images. Larger art boards would only exponentially compound this problem. If you really think about it, why do you "need" and larger art board? Illy files are often super complex and makes huge file sizes some times. So even if Adobe did make this change, I wouldn't see it anyway. Not going to upgrade to the subscription model anytime soon. Who has time to wait for Adobe to get with the program? Plus I'm still team #CS6. I am sure there is something baked into the OG code that causes a black-hole to materialize but you would think after 20 plus years they would have ironed it out. It makes zero sense from my perspective to limit the canvas size, and if there is a logical reason Adobe has yet to openly disclose so. For some more mentally organized people Corel fits like a glove, but for me it's a tight and confining glove.īack on topic, Illustrator is (like it or not) THE industry standard for vector design software and it is appalling to see Adobe ignore this basic and necessary application feature for over two decades. I prefer a more intuitive GUI to my creative temperament vs the analytical approach both Corel and Illustrator display. I have used Corel several times but it carries some of the excessive menu features that I dislike about Illustrator. I am actually a hardcore Flexi power user, but Illustrator is still a very necessary tool to be proficient in considering the marketing and advertising needs for clients of a sign business. Shavings made of animal hairs such as pigs and ponies are typically more expensive, but they will be well worth it in the long run. Many modern brushes are made of synthetic filaments such as nylon or polyester, but natural hair brushes do a better job and last longer. The cuticle of natural hair is a thick layer of organic pigments and oils that lifts and absorbs skin oils. Natural bristle brushes from China achieve better flow and leveling of the coating for smoother results.Īnimal hairs are used in natural brushes like sable, squirrel, or goat, and they can be dyed black or white, but they are naturally brownish or tan in color. Natural bristle brushes are used to apply alyzed paint made of oil. It is critical for those who want to improve their skills that they are familiar with the tools they use.Ī natural bristle is typically made of animal hair such as hog or badger hair. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, or do you expect your brushes to last for years? If you’re a beginner or an expert painter, you’ll need the right tools to do your job right. Natural brushes can be used to apply almost any type of paint, except acrylics, which may cause hair damage to delicate hairs. What’s the difference between saying “you know what” and “you’re good”? As we look at the features and benefits of each type of brush, we can decide which one is right for you. Some artists prefer natural bristles, while others prefer synthetic ones. Synthetic brushes are less expensive and easier to care for, but they may not provide the same quality of finish as natural hair brushes. However, they are more expensive and require more care. They are also less likely to shed than synthetic brushes. Natural hair brushes are often considered the better option because they are softer and hold more paint. Synthetic brushes are made from nylon or polyester filaments. Natural hair brushes are made from animal hair, usually sable, hog, or badger hair. There are pros and cons to both types of brushes, and it really depends on the artist’s preference. There is a small mammal called a sable, a species of marten, but it’s reportedly not harvested for the brushes that use its name.Ĭruelty-free synthetic brushes, made from nylon or polyester, are more affordable, and according to Blick, “advancements in synthetic paintbrush technology have resulted in many synthetic oil paint brushes, watercolor brushes, acrylic brushes, and synthetic bristle brushes that perform as well or better than their natural counterparts. Are natural hair paint brushes better than synthetic brushes? This is a question that has been asked by many artists. The hairs are harvested in Siberia and the Far East, either from trapping or as a byproduct of farming. Sable hair paintbrushes like the one shown in the video are often made from tail hair of the male Siberian weasel ( Mustela sibirica), called a kolinsky or kolonok. This is how paintbrushes are made by hand, a fascinating how-it’s-made Art Insider video. The bundle is wrapped in metal and attached to a paint-dipped wooden handle before it’s crimped into place. Individual red sable hairs are gathered, arranged, and shaped with a starch and water solution. To select multiple clips hold shift while clicking on them, and then you are able to drag or delete them all at once. If you want to move tracks together after removing a section just click and hold on one of the tracks and drag it next to the other one to fill the gap. You can also readjust your cuts by dragging the edge of your track in and out (be sure your cursor has two arrows pointing in opposite directions and not one arrow going in a circle which will make your audio loop). If you regret splitting your tracks you can always go back to the ToolBar and click on Edit to Undo Split Regions (⌘Z). This will cut that part of the track into its own piece that you can delete or move to a different section of your narration. Then, on the ToolBar, click on Edit and click on Split region at playhead, or hold ⌘T. To make a cut drag the playhead to where you want to cut. You can drag the playhead to any part of your track. To prove the point of overestimating, in Guyana in 1937, zoologist Alpheus Hyatt Verrill asked the expedition team he was with to estimate the length of a large, curled-up anaconda on a rock. Numerous estimates and second-hand accounts abound, but are generally considered unreliable. Several zoologists (notably Henry Walter Bates and Alfred Russel Wallace, among others) note rumors of snakes beyond 30 or 40 feet long, but in each case, their direct observations were limited to snakes of approximately 20 feet in length. Numerous historical accounts of green anacondas are reported, often of improbable sizes. Older reports in particular could include individuals which, in times of less pressure from humans, lived longer lives and thus reached greater sizes. At the same time, it is difficult to argue a maximum possible or plausible size, because anacondas are known to continue to grow throughout their lives. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, this species has been perhaps subject to the most extreme size exaggerations of any living animal. Observational reports of animals which were not captured are even more dubious, as even trained scientists often substantially overestimate the size of anacondas prior to capture. Reports without physical proof are considered dubious if from nonscientists, as such individuals may at worst be more interested in promoting themselves or telling a good tale, or at the least may not be sufficiently trained in proper measurement methods. Skins can stretch substantially, increasing the snake's size by more than 50% if stretched during the tanning process. Transporting very large specimens to museums, especially before substantial decay, is difficult (though this has not prevented the return of much larger and more cumbersome crocodilian specimens). The remote location of the snake's habitat has historically made locating, capturing, and returning specimens difficult. The eyes are set high on the head, allowing the snake to see out of the water while swimming without exposing its body. The head is narrow compared to the body, usually with distinctive orange-yellow striping on either side. The color pattern consists of olive green background overlaid with black blotches along the length of the body. Jesús Antonio Rivas, who had examined thousands of anacondas, was a female measuring 521 cm (17.09 ft) long and weighing 97.5 kg (215 lb). The longest (and heaviest) verified specimen encountered by Dr. A $50,000 cash reward is offered for anyone who can catch an anaconda 30 ft (9.1 m) or longer, but the prize has not been claimed yet. Reports of anacondas 35–40 feet or even longer also exist, but such claims need to be regarded with caution, as no specimens of such lengths have ever been deposited in a museum and hard evidence is lacking. Eunectes murinus is probably the heaviest extant species of snake or squamate in the world, perhaps only rivaled by the Komodo dragon. Although it is slightly shorter than the reticulated python, it is far more robust: the bulk of a 4.5m green anaconda would be comparable to a 7.4m reticulated python. It is the largest snake native to the Americas. Weights are less well studied, though will reportedly range from 30 to 70 kg (66 to 154 lb) in an average-range adult. More typical mature specimens reportedly can range up to 5 m (16.4 ft), with the females, at around a mean length of 4.6 m (15.1 ft), being generally much larger in adulthood than the male, which averages around 3 m (9.8 ft). The green anaconda is the world's heaviest and one of the world's longest snakes, reaching 5.21 m (17.1 ft) long. Letter BĪ letter B is formed entirely by negative space between elements that comprise E. Combine well-known images, letters, and optical illusions to get the viewer’s imagination going. It’s a great example of how to use negative space for logo design. Letter AĪ for Academy is formed due to the efficient use of negative space. A real estate agent might choose to represent a house roof with an A letter. Logistical brands can play with arrows – they mean movement, development growth. A brand that is focused on producing environmentally healthy projects, can use O to represent a spheric form of Earth. Of course, these geometrical elements should be consistent with the logo’s intent and purpose. You can form a geometric shape with one letter or with a combination of them. How To Design Negative Space Logo: Ideas for 26 letters They present clever ways of seeing negative space and guessing the image behind the letter. Triangles with V and W (V can be seen as a tick, mountain pick, a flying bird, etc – in other words, simple objects of a trigonal shape).īelow, we prepared examples and brief guidance for negative logos for each of the 26 alphabet letters.Circle with O (designers often experiment with this letter due to its similarities with a facial shape). The most common elements, combined with letters are: Both are graphically simple characters and convey clear associations. So, how to design negative space logos? Well, the easiest way to achieve this is by combining letters and figures in one image. All you need to do is drop an additional clue and let the viewer’s imagination figure out the rest. This is because most people already have some associations with a particular character. Designing negative logos by interpreting letters in the world and finding interesting combinations works incredibly well. Not all of them, of course, but it’s a trend. It’s not an accident that most negative logos feature letters. Luckily, there are techniques that can help you get out of the box and consider creative usage of negative space. Out of the blue, it’s quite a confusing goal. So, the key priority in design a negative space logo is finding a creative concept. The example above is easy to execute, once you have a ready vision. However, the practical execution is usually simple. How to design a negative space logo?ĭesigning a negative logo is challenging at first, both technically and creatively. Negative space letters are one way of creative an awesome logo. So, they placed two eyes just below the letter, hinting an iconic BATMAN’s mask. A letter M hits a mask – the word literally starts with it, and shape brings associations, too. However, designers found another hidden opportunity. Obviously, the word itself is the main space. However, there’s another strategy, which lies in the clever use of negative space. Most designers do that and end up designing the main image without paying attention to its surroundings. It’s easy to think of a negative logo as a simple background for the image. Frames delimit borders of the visual, positive space is a section with an object, and negative space is everything that surrounds it. Whenever you are working on the design, you have three elements in the game – positive space, negative space, and the frame. Stick around if your question is “How to make a negative space logo”. In this guide, we’ll talk about how to design a negative space logo by playing around with letters and show 26 references, for each letter. We like to take inspiration from art, and negative logos are a good example. If done right, visuals get that artistic, luxury feeling, which is what so many brands are looking for now. It’s amazing how much effective use of the negative space influences the look and feel of a design. One of our favorite ones is a negative logo. There are many ways to make your design stand out. |
